Wow, I thought I was up to date with all the cool Google Betas out there. But check out GapMinder, its a nice flash implementation of various world statistics by country over time. There's both chart and map views along with temporal animations. You can highlight nations to track over time, select color and size symbology and zoom in on interesting trends.
